The Eagle Dance

The Eagle Dance is a 3 day annual renewal ceremony which honors our sacred Earth Mother and all children of Grandmother Earth. We gather on Friday to form our community and prepare for the Dance with a purification lodge. We dance all day Saturday to a living tree. As we dance we pray for the strength and courage to do what is uniquely ours to do in this lifetime. We pray for the healing of Grandmother Earth and all her children, and for the coming together of all peoples in balance and beauty. The drum that beats throughout the ceremony carries the heartbeat of the dance. Sacred songs and the whistles we blow send our prayers to Spirit.

Children are welcome at this all-community event, and are cared for in our Children’s Lodge. They take part in outdoor activities and teachings about nature while their parents dance.

When the ceremony is complete we do a second purification lodge and share a traditional feast. On Sunday we take down our campsites, restore the land to beauty, and close our gathering.

The Eagle Dance is held on our ceremonial land in western Michigan. It takes place every summer on the last 3 days of Red Lodge Ceremonial Week.

Our 21st Michigan Eagle Dance will be held July 11-13, 2008.

Contact us no later than July 1st for further details about how to register
